Camp Helen State Park
Science nerds (like me) will love the fact that Camp Helen State Park is an ecological wonder. The 185-acre state park is surrounded by water on three sides. The type of lake that forms its eastern border is known as a coastal dune lake; these are extremely rare and only exist in a few places on the planet!
As you walk through Camp Helene State Park, you’ll find five distinct natural communities:
- basin swamp
- depression marsh
- marine unconsolidated substrate
- mesic flatwoods
- scrub oak
